Thanks. Now I've switched to firefox, where no such problem existed.

As far as I understood, this problem appeared in a moment when I finished
typing an URL(remote) in the address bar and a browser tried to resolve
the given address. But Mozilla works fine when I enter some local URL
(file:///...).
Thus, I think it is not a bug of XWEM (so it may be offtopic there?),
because I found such Mozilla's behaviour in the other window managers,
when it was launched either from GNU Emacs or from XEmacs *eshell* buffer.
