With ERC (IRC client) I use the following scheme: I have a two lines
tall dockapp that displays the source and number of new messages sorted
by the number of personal messages, like:
-----------
#XWEM:5a -> 5 unread messages, 1 for me (b is two etc)
#foo:2 -> 2 unread messages
-----------
When I hit A-space, XWEM brings me to the XEmacs window that has that
buffer open, and the dockapp changes:
-----------
#foo:2 --> now only #foo has 2 unread messages
-----------
I think eicq could do something similar, it works well for me.
