Just for kicks, I tried enabling balloon-help-mode again. So far, so
good, it is behaving itself quite well.
I've had one or two "bad window" things from X and very occasionally
the balloon-help frame takes its own sweet time in refreshing. But I
wouldn't even call those hic-ups annoying.
I'll keep an eye on it and let you know if it ever does anything truly
evil like invite my mother-in-law to move in with us.
