Unison (apt-cache show unison, or Google) is a very versatile file
synchroniser, maybe you can use it in your situation (I don't know, it
is just a vague tip).

I've just posted it, I think it is fairly easy to port the
XWEM-MPD-OSD-UPDATE function to use EMMS's variables! ;)
